Abstract
As technology advances, the workplaces and working time are no longer fixed, and the number of working hours has also increased, making the term workaholism heatedly discussed by the media and the public in recent years. However, compared with the great amount of research results in Western academic circles, the discussion of workaholic issues by Eastern scholars is still insufficient. The present study analyzed the responses from 330 participants and explored the relationship between workaholism, workplace friendship, and job performance in Asian culture. We also further examine the mediating effect of workplace friendship on workaholism and job performance.
This study utilized the hierarchical regression method to analyze the above variables. Research result shows that workaholism has a positive impact on job performance, and has a partial positive impact on workplace friendship. In addition, the findings also validate the positive effects of workplace friendship on job performance. On the other hand, the partial mediating effect of workplace friendship on workaholism and job performance was also found. Based on the research results, the present study proposed relevant management implications and recommendations as a reference for future research.
