Abstract
Conflict is a concept that defies gender, age, culture, and level of education. It is inevitable in both school environments as well as professional organizations. Where there is a situation which calls for people to work together in order to complete a task, there is conflict. Occurrences such as task interdependence and façade of conformity may also present itself as a result of conflict. Whether external factors such as communication frequency and team cohesiveness can alleviate, diminish, or completely resolve such conflicts is vital. Furthermore, should conflict nonetheless be inescapable, learning how to distinguish between relationship conflict and task conflict, as well as learning how to capitalize on existing conflict for unexpected benefits is essential. I will discuss the implications of the findings for conflict literature and research.
