  • Abstract In this study, the strategic skills required by chief human resources officers (CHROs) were systematically structured. The weighting of skill dimensions in various aspects was analyzed to establish a standard for evaluating CHRO skills. Adopting literature reviews, expert interviews, questionnaire designs, and questionnaire survey methods, this study constructed five dimensions for evaluating strategic CHRO skills and 20 evaluation criteria. A total of 30 questionnaires were distributed to former business chairpersons, general managers, and academic staffs who had had experience in assigning CHROs. After eliminating invalid questionnaires and dimensions that failed to pass consistency index tests , there were 18 valid questionnaires, and got a 60% response rate. The five dimensions of CHRO skill evaluation were compared in pairs to identify their importance. The analytic hierarchy process was conducted to perform statistical analysis. The importance of strategic CHRO skills in descending order was as follows: organizational culture communication, reformative management and employee commitment, intra- and inter-organizational strategy integration, enhancement of organizational skills and performance, and improvement of employee care and quality of life. In addition, analyses by industry category, business size, and length of CHRO tenure were conducted, revealing a slightly different weighting ranking to the indicator dimensions.
