  • Abstract Authoritarian leadership is a very critical part in triad model of paternalistic
    leadership and should have positive influence in Chinese organization. However, many
    studies find that authoritarian leadership has negative influence on organization and
    employee. To solve this discrepant situation, some researchers suggest to split
    authoritarian leadership into Juan-Chiuan leadership, which tends to control people, and
    Shang-Yan leadership, which tends to control task. Then, the negative results of
    authoritarian leadership may come form Juan-Chiuan leadership.
    This study, surveyed from 291 employees, aims at the influence of Juan-Chiuan
    leadership and Shang-Yan leadership on job satisfaction, and take the job engagement as
    an moderator. There are two findings. first, Juan-Chiuan leadership has negative impact
    on job satisfaction, and job engagement can strengthen this negative impact. Second,
    Shang-Yan leadership has no significant impact on job satisfaction. However, job
    engagement can moderate Shang Yan leadership to have negative impact to job
    satisfaction. Then, based on the findings and restrictions, this study proposes the theory
    implementation, practical implementation, and future research direction.
