  • Abstract Lighting device has become one critical part in our life, but it also consumes much energy. Bureau of Energy indicates that the national lighting power consumption accounts for 12% of the total power consumption in 2011. Therefore, to improve power efficiency of lighting device is a topic worthy of being studied. Traditional lighting device can only provide fixed brightness. However, due to the impact of ambient light and different
    lighting-level requirements for multiple users, lamps can provide certain brightness to meet the needs of users. In this paper, we divided lighting sources into two categories, namely ambient lighting and local lighting. We use Android-based smart phones to connect to NeuroSky MindWave Mobile brainwave device via Bluetooth, and retrieve
    user's brainwave information as well as attention meter. In our proposed dimming algorithm, we observe user's reaction to the current brightness of lamp. In addition, we use a light sensor to get current brightness. Then, we calculate the appropriate brightness level, and transmit the brightness level to the microcontroller of LED lamp through Bluetooth. Next, the microcontroller can adopt PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to adjust the brightness of lamp. Finally, the prototype of dimming system is implemented for demonstrating. Our system makes user's attention meter keep in a stable state and improve user's attention meter. Experiment result also shows that our system can reduce power consumption.
