  • Abstract The research aims at exploring the relationship between visionary leadership and team’s future orientation. Future orientation gets little attention in organizational research; however, foresight has been seen as one of important competencies for organizations’ long term development. As a result, in this study I will focus on team’s future orientation and try to understand the importance of future orientation and what could influence future orientation.
    The framework of this study consisted of visionary leadership as independent variable, team’s future orientation as dependent variable and team’s atmosphere as a moderator. In sample collection, I sent out questionnaires to work teams and 51 teams are collected in return with 259 valid responses including leaders and members. Finally, I tested hypothesis by regression analysis and related analysis method. Research results show that each of these variables are positively related to each other. Importantly, team’s future orientation is positively related to team’s performance. On the other hand, there is no significant moderating effect for overall team atmosphere on the relationship between visionary leadership and team’s future orientation. However, we found moderating effect with the dimension “mutual trust and access to help” from team’s atmosphere.
    In conclusion, the results show the importance of team leader’s visionary leadership and team’s future orientation. Finally, suggestions can be made for leaders of organizations or teams to improve or enhance the team’s competences.
