In the highly competitive business environment, every company hopes to constantly acquire outstanding employees to sustain short-term talent demand and to create high operational performance. Furthermore, if the employees’ characteristics correspond to the company’s philosophy and culture very well, they are willing to make discretionary contributions, and become the inimitable talents as the human capital. Human resource selection is the crucial means for talent acquisition.
The main purpose of personnel selection plan is to assess the capability of the candidates and to predict their job performance by various selection tools. Although the studies of the selection tools have been developed for years, we often heard the misuse and abuse of a certain selection tool that reduces the beneficial result. It may also cause the selection of incompetent applicants and a waste of selecting cost. Therefore, the researcher considers if companies have a comprehensive understanding of various selection tools, the result will be more effective. Also, the extensive and detail discussion of the selection tools are rare in Chinese researches.
This research discussed comprehensively on selection plan, selection process and the theory, research, and practical use of fifteen selection methods by compiling domestic and foreign literature. And then, by surveying the samples of domestic firms, it shows the current status of the selection tools usage and performance assessment by the HR professionals. Lastly, this study proposed some practical suggestions about selection tools by comparing and analyzing the literature research and practical usage.
