  • Abstract This thesis provides a systematic design process to build an integrated tubular linear-geared generator which can be incorporated with slow-motion reciprocating renewable energy sources directly without applying any additional mechanical conversion devices. It also establishes the numerical magnetic circuit models which can be used to analyze the electromagnetic properties of linear magnetic gears and linear generators to give the rough estimations before using the finite element analysis for detailed evaluations. A prototype design with 150 mm in diameter and 300 mm in length has been developed. Results show that the power rating of 1/4 hp can be achieved at reciprocating frequency of 5 Hz along with an operational stroke of 40 mm.
