  • Abstract This thesis investigates a novel structure that is possible for future personal mobile assistive devices application. To minimize the size of the device, a systematic scheme is proposed. From the outer annular-arranged transverse-flux magnetic gears set and the permanent magnet synchronous motor, the input electric power can be converted directly to supply larger output mechanical torque without additional mechanical devices. The preliminary parameters and electromagnetic properties of the device can be roughly estimated by the numerical models based on the magnetic circuit theory. Furthermore, three-dimensional finite element analysis is adopted to supply detailed system dynamic characteristics for validation.
