  • Abstract VANET is a form of Mobile Ad-hoc Network(MANET), where nodes refer to the vehicles. The network is characterized by its high mobility, causing a high dynamic topology that changes continuously and very rapidly. Hence, most traditional MANET routing protocols are not suitable for VANET. High mobility, frequent link disconnection, and uneven distribution of vehicles, make developing a high performance VANET routing protocol more challenging. In this thesis, we develop a VANET routing protocol by selecting road segment with higher connectivity and lower experienced delay to forward the packets. Simulation results show that the proposed routing protocol outperforms Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing for Wireless Networks(GPSR) and Intersection-based Connectivity Aware Routing in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks(iCAR) in terms of packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay with a negligible cost of communication overhead in typical urban scenarios.
