  • Abstract RNA editing is one of post-transcriptional modification in gene regulation. Unlike common forms of RNA processing, RNA editing includes nucleobase modifications、
    insertion or deletion. RNA editing can be classified in two form depending on mechanism, insertion or deletion and deamination. There are two kinds of deamination,A-to-I and C-to-U. A-to-I editing is the main form of RNA editing in mammals. Adenosine Deaminase, RNA-Specific (ADAR) is the main enzymes in A-to-I editing. The physiological functions of RNA editing is still unclear today. Meanwhile, the role of RNA A-to-I editing in cancer is also unclear now. Previous studies have shown that RNA is over-editing and plays a specific role in some kinds of tumor. The high expression of ADAR confirmed that RNA is over-editing in head and neck cancer. We combine The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Rigorously Annotated Database of A-to-I RNA editing (RADAR) database to analyze the relationship between RNA editing and head and neck associated genes. We screened 20 genes which is RNA edited according to their expression level, including 10 potential oncogenes and 10 potential tumor suppressor genes where their possible function of RNA editing in head and neck cancer are discussed to clarify the role of RNA editing in cancer.
