  • Abstract This thesis utilizes the high-frequency current injection method and the PI-MRI control topology to estimate the electrical parameters of the permanent magnetic synchronous motor (PMSM). Through the motor parameter estimations under various operating conditions, three methods and possible applications concerning PMSM drive and control are developed. 1) Magnetic polarity detection method: The accurate detection of the magnetic polarity combined with the conventional rotor position estimation method enables the start-up of the sensorless PMSM at standstill. 2) Core-loss resistance estimation method: The identification of the frequency-dependent core-loss resistance helps develop a loss minimization control algorithm for PMSM. 3) On-line tuning of high-frequency-injection estimator of the rotor position of the PMSM : On-line estimations of the electrical parameters of the PMSM enable the tuning of the estimator for better performance.
