  • Abstract This paper tries to explore how legislators balance legislative participation and constituency service. First, we apply a formal model to explore the factors which can influence the amount of the constituency service time. Actually, the performance of legislative participation also has been affected by these factors. Using the formal model, we have the following conclusion: The legislator may not be affected by voter’s structure. Then, we present an empirical research to examine the relationship between the other factors and the performance of legislative participation. Empirical results indicate that the performance of legislative participation affected by the characteristics of legislators and constituencies.
