  • Abstract “Sonata 1. X. 1905” , a piano work composed by Leoš Janáček as a tribute to the death of a young Czech from the political events taken place in Czech Republic in 1905. The research focuses on the relationship between the ‘Speech melody theory’, proposed by Janáček, and compositional features used in his work of “Sonata 1. X. 1905”. The chapters contain the relevant historical background of the composer and his music, as well as the analytical discussion of the speech melody concept within the motivic materials in this piece. Besides that, the research also includes the interpretational points of view from the contemporary pianists who expertise Janáček’s works. “Sonata 1. X. 1905”,with the main characteristics of Janáček, indeed deserves more attention from musicians and audiences.
