  • Abstract In this thesis, we study ways to reduce the operating costs of electric buses by developing a smart charging approach and setting a proper contract capacity. In practice, operating costs include not only power rates but also battery degradation costs. Therefore, we consider the operating cost by introducing battery degradation costs. To minimize the operating cost, we develop smart charging approaches by the cross-entropy method and set a proper contract capacity by sequential search method. Furthermore, we study the power rate reduction by equipping solar power plants. By our methods, we can efficiently reduce operating costs of electric buses and avoid unnecessary wastes in many different scenarios.
