  • Abstract This thesis focuses on the phase locked loop controller design for power networks under the scenario that the three-phase power output of the network is unbalanced. Moreover, the thesis also proposes a control design for the new wind turbine power generation system for achieving maximal power tracking while maintaining a constant frequency of power output. Finally, the phase locked loop controller and the maximal power tracking controller are utilized alongside so that the wind turbine power generation system can be operated in a grid-tied fashion.
    In this thesis, we establish a mathematical model for the new wind turbine power generation system, and utilize the numerical simulation software MATLAB for controller design and simulation verification. The control objectives for the new wind power generation system is maximal power tracking, maintaining constant rotational speed, and phase angle tracking of the three-phase power output, so that the generator can perform grid-tied operation. The phase locked loop controller is designed so that the grid-tied operation may continue even when the three-phase grid power output is fluctuated and unbalanced. According to the experimental results, it appears that the controller we proposed for the wind turbine power generator has fairly good output performance, and the phase locked loop controller we designed can handle the impact from the power networks failure.
