  • Abstract Since ancient times, China has been communicating with Nanyang. Every dynasty had immigrant and expatriate, especially Qing dynasty. However, the studies of Nanyang in China appeared in recent years. The studies of Nanyang began from the Chinese intellectuals, and then developed in Southeast Aisa.
    In Southeast Asia, the first research group organized by the Chinese people in Nanyang, is the "South Seas Society", in the history of 75 years, the Journal of South Sea Society had great change in contents and membership. In contemporary, South Seas Society is a historic and indicative research institute in this field.
    Study the content of 75 years of the Journal of South Sea Society, and then, classification and statistical the change of the contents, it is helps to understand the ups and downs and research of the preference of Nanyang Studies. Moreover, we can use these to track the Nanyang Chinese’s change of identity, especially the decline of Chinese identity.
