  • Abstract Comb-shaped zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures were grown on (1-102) sapphire substrate by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). ZnO powder is mixed with graphite powder as reaction source. Argon and oxygen (95% Ar/5% O2) are used as the reaction gas. ZnO nanostructures were grown by vapor-liquid-solid mechanism (VLS), Ni metal is coated as the catalyst on the sapphire substrate.
    In this study, ZnO nanocombs were successfully synthesized on Ni coated sapphire substrates at temperatures of 950 oC and pressures of 50 torr. The crystal structure, surface morphology and optical properties of the ZnO nanocombs were analyzed by different techniques, including X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron micro-scope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), photoluminescence (PL), cathodoluminescence (CL), and raman spectroscope.
