  • Abstract Natural gas has gradually played an important role in response to global climate change and the shortage of international power supply, becoming an important power supply source in fossil fuels with safer, cleaner, more efficient way and to ease the emission of greenhouse gases. However, the natural gas industry in Taiwan protected and restricted by policy, publicity and socialization, seems with the character of market-districted monopoly. However, also facing the disadvantage growth factors to Taiwan Natural Gas Company such as the saturation within inner-supply market, cross-section competition with industrial-area user, gas-consumption amount decrease due to global economy prosperity. Nevertheless, fewer researches seen to Taiwan Natural Gas Company’s future business strategy and the direction of development. Therefore, it’s obviously important to come up with the appropriate business strategy to Taiwan Natural Gas Company in response to general politics, macroeconomics, whole society and the technology environment.
      The thesis is adopted by case study, and choosed 6 high level business executives of the better operated gas company as interviewees, combining the internal operational information of case company using the PEST Analysis, Porter Five Forces Analysis, and the SWOT Analysis to probe cases one by one. 1. The politics, economy, society and technology in Taiwan natural gas industry. 2. The industry chain analysis of Taiwan's natural gas. 3. The competitive analysis of case company.
      This research found: 1. In politics view, although government’s natural gas policies protect companies’ competition in the industry, at the same time, restricting companies’ profit development. 2. In economics stance, the profit of natural gas industry affected by global economy, especially in the manufacturing industry. 3. In society aspect, people look forward to the universal of natural gas pipes, but with the high cost of installment, as to the barrier of bottled gas industry, resulting in low installment ratio in southern areas in Taiwan except industrial region. 4. In technology perspective, with government’s sound resource policy and subsidies, it will eventually benefit combining the application of natural-gas battery and the promotion of natural-gas car. Finally, here comes with SO, WO, ST, WT policies to promote Taiwan natural gas company's competitive advantage.
