Corporate university is the highest level in training system. There is a strong linkage between operation in corporate university and providing competencies employees need. |
The research is exploratory research. The methodologies applied for tracking contemporary corporate university are “interview” and “literature review.” The research purpose includes three points. First of all, analysing of corporate university cases. Secondly, comparing and analyzing the essential elements of corporate universities. Thirdly, making suggestion or solutions for obstacle or challenge in development of corporate university.
For achieving variety of case studies, there are not only 4 corporate universities belong to advanced companies in different industry, but also 2 foreign corporate universities. They are TCL university and Flextronics university. The research is based on qualitative research for describing essential elements among 6 corporate universities, and then compare and analyze them for giving suggestion.
The system of the courses and the “train the trainer” are mature enough. However, the weakness of assessment system is the overall situation. The challenge includes “incomplete competency models and training maps”, “hard to achieve learning atomosphere”, “training is not suitable for the demand from strategy or employees” and “quality of training is not easy to control”. During the “establishing competency model in sequence”, “establishing social network or learning group”, “reformation of TTT” and “communicate with other departments consistently” are the suggestion for improving situation.
