  • Abstract This thesis investigates the micro-grids operation analysis of a small island, Wangan, which belongs to Penghu County of Taiwan, with high penetration of renewable energy generation systems. By collecting the power system frameworks of the island, the models of generators, and the load data, we can build the single line diagram of the power system. Afterwards, in order to reduce the cost of diesel power generation in the condition of stability and analyzing the benefits of the investment, this thesis decide the capacity of the battery energy storage system (BESS) with respect to the capacity of photovoltaic (PV) generation system and the capacity of wind power generation system (WG), and decide the best charging and discharging time based on the annual report about PV power generation of Cimei island, which also belongs to Penghu County of Taiwan, and the annual report about WG power generation of Penhu. This paper will investigate the load tripping when the PV and WG systems are faulted and the power variation for various ramp rate of PV and WG systems through CYME PSAF. This paper will also consider the situation with installing BESS that can supply active power and reactive power immediately when the system is disturbed.
