However, it’s still not clear with regrad to whether M&A is truly helpful for a company. This thesis applies a case study approach to explore the M&A experience and process of a Japanese electronics company. It also collects secondary data to analyze the pre- and post- performance of M&A strategy and conducts in-depth interviews with several key managers to find the key factor of a successful M&A strategy.
The results show that the key successful factors of a M&A case include: (a) Well- prepared before initiating the M&A project; (b) Thorough and meticulous checks during the M&A process; (c) The complementarities in key businesses between acquired and acquiring companies; (d) The execution and vision of top leaders; (e) Organizational integration (e.g., human resources) after M&A. Also, M&A indeed can increase firm financial performance and its stock price. Implications and contributions for business practices and academia are discussed accordingly.
