  • Abstract This study examines how the top executives of a multinational enterprise (MNE), i.e. Corporation Z, lead and manage its subsidiary in Taiwan. The focus of the essay is on the leadership capacity and decision-making ability of the executives. The critical incident technique (CIT) was first applied to identify the key decisions made by the MNE’s executives. An in-depth interview approach was then adopted to seek for the ideas and comments of the subsidiary’s top- and middle-level managers on these decisions and probe into why MNE’s executives made these decisions. In so doing, the study identifies the wisdom, decision-making ability, and leadership capacity of an effective leadership, as well as factors that lead to failures in decision-making.
