  • Abstract This study aimed to investigate the relationship between psychological capital and professional commitment for special educators in the elementary school in Kaohsiung. This study used the survey method, utilizing the Kaohsiung Elementary School Special Educator’s Psychological Capital and Professional Commitment Questionnaire developed by writer. The subjects included special education teachers in the elementary school in Kaohsiung. All the special education teachers were censused. The percentage of returned questionnaire was 81.53. The data of 481 effective questionnaires was analyzed with mean, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Person’s product-moment correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
    There were several finding as follows:
    1. The psychological capital of special educators in the elementary school in Kaohsiung is in upper-intermediate level, and optimism capital has the highest scores.
    2. The professional commitment of special educators in the elementary school in Kaohsiung is in upper-intermediate level, and professional identity has the highest scores.
    3. There were significant differences between educators with years for teaching, postition and marriage status in the psychological capital dimension.
    4. There were significant differences between educators with different classes, genders, years for teaching, marriage status in the psychological capital dimension.
    5. The psychological capital of special educators in the elementary school in Kaohsiung has important positive correlations with their professional commitment.
    6. The psychological capital of special educators in the elementary school in Kaohsiung is predictable to their professional commitment.
      Finally, several suggestions were made in the study in accordance with the results of this investigation, serving as reference for the related educational authorities, school administrative unit, elementary special educators and future studies.
