  • Abstract The design concept of using the passive switchable matching circuit (PSMC) is applied to dual-feed LTE/WWAN tablet computer antennas. Firstly, by applying the PSMC, a dual-feed antenna with a simple structure can achieve a dual-wideband operation, and high isolation between the two feeds thereof can also be obtained. The PSMC can function like using an active switch, thereby decreasing the complexity of the antenna design. The PSMC can also integrate with ASM (Antenna Switch Module) to decrease the complexity of the system design. Secondly, in order to decrease the effects of surrounding components to the antenna, the PSMC design concept is applied to a loop antenna, and the related circuit design for the loop antenna is presented. Thirdly, in order to decrease the number of the lumped elements and simplify the circuit design, a single-feed antenna integrated with the PSMC is presented. With the aid of the PSMC, the antenna with simple low-band and high-band feeding branches can generate dual-resonance in both bands to achieve a dual-wideband operation for covering the LTE/WWAN bands of 698~960 and 1710~2690 MHz. All of the proposed antennas show good radiation characteristics and have a small occupied volume of 10 ∗ 30 ∗ 3 mm3 only.
