  • Abstract Titanium alloy with high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance, and is harmless to humans, so it is widely used in aerospace industry. Recently, it began to applied in biomedical fields. The finite element method is adopted to analysis the heading and threading of dental implants which are made of Ti-6Al-4V , and investigate how is the effect of forging force and formability by process parameters.
    At first, the flow stresses of different forming temperatures and strain rates could be obtained by doing compression test of Ti-6Al-4V from Gleeble 3800. They were imported into DEFORM, the finite element analysis software to perform heading and threading process simulation. There are two stages of heading process, one is forming the shaft of the screw, another is forming the head part of it. During the stroke of first stage and velocities of punch in each stages were changed, the process parameters with lower forging force, timesaving and non-defect could be obtained. How is the effect of thread shape and height by the relative position between the screw dies and friction factor were discussed in threading process.
