  • Abstract This study examines the background of the development of the music education market in the process of Taiwan’s economic growth. In addition to understanding the basic operation ideas of the managers of “chain music schools in their operation,” this project summarizes three kinds of literature in chain operation, expansion strategy, and the educational training for chain stores to analyze the current conditions and competitive advantages of the operation of chain music school. The purposes of this study are (1) find out if there is any difference between the theory relation to the expansion strategy of chain store and operation of chain music school by interviewing the actual managers; (2) construct a framework for the expansions strategy of “chain music school enterprises”: propose methods for the management of music schools whose work fits into our times in order to find out the SOP techniques, the know-how for management as references and guidelines for further considerations of store expansion for entrepreneurs in the future. A semi-structured interview is utilized as the research method. With the in-depth interview between the actual operators and researcher, the following conclusion is derived. The terms for store expansion and related rules and regulates are strict. In the operation process, in addition to the franchisees’ ideals and thinking, the most important key is teachers’ training that requires a prolonged period of operation. Regarding the operation of art education business in chain schools, basically, it meets the requirements. However, the music arts industry has its own uniqueness because it belongs to a market of the minorities. In addition, it is difficult to establish a brand for education; therefore, it is not possible to construct an SOP for the expansions of chain school and quantify related data. With this study, it is expected that Taiwan’s academia can understand the endeavor and difficulties in the promotion of the music franchising system in Taiwan.
