  • Abstract This study focuses on what affects young voters’ voter turnout based on analysis of two face-to-face survey data sets collected after Taiwan's 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. The analysis includes two phases: the first is using chi-square test to check the relationship between selected independent variables and voter turnout (the dependent variable). The second is using binomial logistic regression to test hypotheses regarding the extension to which these independent variables affects voter turnout. This study distinguishes itself from previous studies, which point out the important role of age variable in explaining voter turnout, by focusing on the group of young voters. This study finds that the following factors can explain voter turnout of Taiwanese young voters: ethnic background, party identification, ethnic identification, political efficacy, types of newspaper read, frequency of watching TV news, satisfaction with the incumbent political party, perception about check and balance in the government, political interest, religious belief, civil duty, and economic evaluation.
