Purpose: This study investigate the relationship and factors between medication adherence and health care utilization among Schizophrenia inpatients after discharged, for reducing relapse rate, helping patients stabling disease, reducing health care spending, and providing health authorities to set policy. Method: This study is a retrospective study, use National Health Insurance Database from 2006 to 2012, track after Schizophrenia inpatients discharged, calculating their Medication possession ratio (MPR) to present medication adherence, analysis are there any significant difference from medication characteristics, patient characteristics, hospital characteristics, disease characteristics and different health care utilization results. Results: There are 2109 subjects, the mean of MPR=0.606; Patients in high adherence are relative to lower readmission occurrence probability and lower readmission times, clearly the health care utilization results is better, but also relative to higher health care costs. Conclusion: After analysis can see that Schizophrenia patients taking medication for preventing the recurrence is indeed effective, higher adherence is relative higher costs, perhaps in drug prices and control policies are one of the potential factors of patients taking situation. |
