摘要
近幾十年來，華盛頓州，俄勒岡州和北加利福尼亞州（在聖克魯斯市劃定）的人口數量出現了膨脹。本文利用邁克爾波特的產業集群理論以及調查居住環境和家庭價值自然設施的理論，研究了人口增長背後的因素。通過首先檢查每個目標城市的歷史，然後使用從各種來源收集的數據，以及對城市領導者和規劃者的訪談，本研究試圖在人口在25,000到250,000之間的增長最快的城市中找到一種趨勢三個州中的每個州：柯克蘭，華盛頓，本德，俄勒岡，都柏林，加利福尼亞州。最後，本文建議城市應該啟動教育和產業政策，甚至與鄰近城市合作，保持高效的交通基礎設施，確保自然周邊設施得到保護，方便市民使用。

Abstract
The states of Washington, Oregon and Northern California (demarcated at the city of Santa Cruz) have seen a swelling in their population in recent decades. This paper investigates the factors behind this growth in population, using Michael Porter’s industrial cluster theory as well as theories that investigate living environments and natural amenities on home values. By first examining the histories of each of the target cities and then employing data gathered from a variety of sources, as well as interviews with city leaders and planners, this study attempts to find a trend amongst the fastest growing cities with populations between 25,000 and 250,000 people in the each of the three states: Kirkland, Washington, Bend, Oregon, Dublin, California. Ultimately, this paper suggests cities should initiate educational and industrial policies and even co-operate with neighboring cities, maintain efficient transportation infrastructure and ensure natural surrounding amenities are protected and easily accessible for citizens.
